There is the Nehru Trophy race on Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha. It's held on the second Saturday of August each year. Of course there will be far more tourists then normal during that time as it is a very popular event. The Aranmula Boat Race occurs around August or September. It is held in Aranmula during Onam. The Champakulam Moolam Boat Race is held on Champakulam Lake and usually occurs in June. All the races are something to see if you don't mind the crowds.
